SOLUCIONADO.   

Solo cree el archivo xorg, edite el driver intel a vesa y funciono.

La cosa es simple. Actualicé el X a la versión 1.9.2 (supongo que tenía la 1.9.1) y ahora me da error y no arranca.
Ya recompilé los drivers (pantalla, teclado....) y sigue todo igual.

Unas preguntas para ir entendiendo más, ¿qué diferencia existe existe entre la solución de j4np0l y Bytheface??? es decir lo de añadir umask=000.

umask=000, da permisos a todos los usuarios/grupos. Tambien podrias hacerlo agregando la opcion rw (ReWritable - de escritura).

Otra cosa, supongo que en Linux lo de no poder acceder a tu otra partición pudiendo modificar los archivos sera por algo, así que ¿puedo tener algún problema de seguridad teniendo toda mi partición Windows/C al "descubierto"?

No. A veces Window$ "molesta" con hacer un chequeo al disco (por errores) pero no pasa nada, el driver ntfs-3g anda bien.

¿Y si quisiera solo modificar una carpeta persona, es decir que no en todo C se pudiera modificar cosas?

No entiendo esto.

No estoy seguro pero creo que directamente no se puede actualizar de 8.04 a 10.04, asi que tendrias que hacer un backup de tus archivos personales y de configuracion e instalar todo de nuevo.

Y como vi ya varios posts, es mejor instalar Ubuntu en "limpio" a que actualizar.

Y si, seria lo mejor que empiece con Gentoo pero (por lo menos a mi parecer) es un poco dificil, aunque la mejor sin duda. 

Yo pienso que Ubuntu esta bien para empezar y aprender. A veces la consola no va para los principiantes, y si tienes un distro que no tienes GUI te vuelves loco porque es la unica opcion.
Pero si ten en cuenta en un futur... Gentoo rocks!!

No se si aplica, pero elimina tambien los archivos ocultos que estan en tu carpeta $HOME.

¿A qué te refireres?
En el for puedes usar cualquier variable pero generalmente se usa una letra (a, b, c, i...).
