[MINT] Qué hago con xorg.conf vacío??

Pues resulta que acabo de instalar Linux Mint en mi pc a ver que tal va (instalado junto con windows XP) y resulta que cuando voy a editar el xorg.conf me aparece vacío. He buscado en un montón de sites y nada, todo es para portátiles y particularizado, por lo que no creo que valga.
¿Qué puedo hacer?

Las versiones actuales de xorg no necesitan normalmente el archivo de configuracion para trabajar con tarjetas integradas.

Claro esta que si quieres sacarle el maximo partido a tu hardware deberas editar el archivo, pero en principio para ver el escritorio en tu pantalla no te hace falta.

Existen comandos que te crean el xorg.conf como por ejemplo http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/create-a-xorgconf-file.html

Si buscas por google encontraras tambien info sobre como afinar la config del xorg para sacarle el maximo partido a NVIDIA y ATI. Hay paginas enteras dedicadas solo a esos temas.

Pero lo que pasa es que quiero tener una resolución de 1024x786 y no una de 800x600 como tengo, por eso quiero configurar el xorg.

PD: probé con xorgconfig y con xorg -configure y nada :S

Prueba con esto, es un copy paste a trozos de una de mis tarjetas graficas. He escogido las partes que creo que te funcionaran. Pruebalo si te funciona way, pero es muy probable que de algun error y no funcione asi que en ese caso pon todo el log del error del xorg (/var/log/Xorg.log) aqui en el foro y vamos corrigiendo fallos segun se vaya quejando de cosas.

EDIT: Ahora me deja ponerlo en 640x480 también, pero no en una resolucion mayor T_T.

Que te sale en /var/log/Xorg.log?

Estas seguro que tu pantalla soporta la resolucion que buscas?

Como veras hay un linea que pone modes

       Modes      "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

Ahi si añades otros modos tambien teberian habilitarse si la pantalla los soporta. Prueba a añadir "1280x800" y otros valores a la linea Modes.

La pantalla soporta la resolución porque de toda la vida he tenido esa e incluso la de 1280 en Winxp y me ha ido bien, y cuando puse ubuntu también me iba (pero ahí el xorg estaba escrito).

En /var/log no está el archivo que me has dicho, sin embargo hay un archivo que es Xorg.0.log y en el que pone:

Hola, me parece que debes agregar al xorg.conf los valores del rango de "Horizontal Sync" y "Vertical Refresh" de tu monitor.
Estos datos deden estar en las especificaciones brindadas por el fabricante, aveces viene indicado en una etiqueta pegada en la parte trasera del monitor.

Hola, mirad. Buscando en yahoo, encontre algo que funcionó a medias. Era editando también usando sudo gedit .config/monitors.xml. Lo hice, reinicié y tenía unas 10 o 15 tamaños de pantalla diferentes, aunque ninguno le valía al mio xD. AL reiniciar se borró este archivo y el xorg.conf entero. Tiene esto algo que ver?? :S
